External Interface Not Connecting

Have noticed several posts in the forum from people who have had difficulty trying to get their ASL v5 to pick up an IP address from their ISP, especially cable modem users. I have spent half the day fighting the same problem but to no avail! I too cannot obtain an IP address from my ISP's DHCP server (cable modem is a Surfboard 3100). Yet I reverted back to ASL v4, performed a "fresh" install of v4 (on the same hardware as v5 WAS installed) and voila. IP address (via DHCP) obtained immediately (once external interface defined).

Surely this is a bug in ASL v5.001? If not, would somebody please offer a solution/fix/work-around? v5 is certainly an improvement over v4, but is next-to-useless if it cannot connect to the "outside world".

    I ran into the same problem. External interface (cable modem) down and would not come up after a reboot of 5.000. A reinstall fixed the problem but I have not rebooted since then to see if the external interface comes up or not. Version 4 always worked flawlessly. I wonder how many people have run into this problem?
