Webamin very slow on ASL 5

If you have a look for minimum of hardware it is 256Mb off ram to run v5. And you have only 160Mb of ram in your v5 box. 

The minimum hardware was also 256Mo with ASL 4 and all was working fine.  

Funny tough that when you look at the reporting it will never reach more then 5%. But when you log in at the console and look with top you will see processes (spamd, confd, etc) that are using a lot (95%>). I wonder if those processes are'nt responsible for the (sometimes) slow interface....

You are correct v5 webadmin is slower than v4.021.  However we are still in RC development and anyone that installs it must relise that there almost certainly will be issues.  I think its great as it allows all of us to post the faults that we find, so when the final version is released most of the bugs should be sorted.  I guess my only grip is the licensing issues.  How do you get the license to get Intrustion working??  As the previous poster said, hang in their and just report any bug you find.  If you feel that the product is not ready for your needs yet downgrade.  I see no reason to downgrade though just because the interface is slower.  I have been using v5 since RC release and have noticed slowness but just accepted it

Version wise it's a upgrade/downgrade   Stupid question, why is Intrusion Detection so important for you guys? I use snort for more then three years now and it's never more then a nice 'addon'....

I guess it is just added protection.  Snort is cool but takes a while to get going properly..

Wiht snort's ability to kill p2p..as well as IM this is the reason fo r its importance.  killing p2p allows businesses and home users to aoid the legal arena that p2p is..IM is a major security issue for protecting conpanie's IP and trade secrets.  Snort is perfect for these roles.  And the cost os Snort canont be beat..[:)]

Did you ever thought about performance? Or the way a firewall is gonna react when using Snort? There is a diifence you see.....

when i tested one of the betas with snort enabled i hit it with kazaa traffic from 4 machines on my hardware without any idegredation of performance.  I be this mahcine could handle at least 10 if not more..[:)]  it is not a performance or intergratiion issuse.

The use of snort in a small company with, lets say, 400 workstations CAN be a disaster. Not to mention the false postives/ true negatives or whatever they like to call them. It can be a very handy tool but nothing more and only if you know what you are doing.... again IMHO.....

with today's litigous environment it would not be a disaster but prudent.  With Snort you can customize the rules however you like.  ASL's webmin helps in the customization.  I would take a bit of false positive in exchange for the savings from not having to fight the horde of lawsuits that would enevitibly follow p2p behavior or in some cases IM traffic.  

IMHO it would be disastrous for SMB/Medium businesses to not use Snort to filter traffic as they can easily be put out of buinesse by one p2p lawsuit. 

I'm not saying that you should not use SNORT (or equiv.) but i'm wonder if A) a firewall should be the place for SNORT and B) if there are not any options to block p2p in a 'firewall way'.... 

And if a company wants to stop the use of p2p they should review there policy when it comes to user rights etc....
