i understand you're idea and the arguments, but
first are you willing to pay all the license fees for several virus engines ?
second would it be a hard job to let several engines work parallel (did you ever try on a desktop, everyone would recommend you to NEVER do that because of expecting problems).

In my oppinion if you have a vorus scanner in your firewall (like Kaspersky) and another vendor on your desktops (like Symantec, TrendMicro or whatever) and they have well set rules, you should be able to catch >90% of all possible attacks.
In addition you could install a dedicated virus scanner for your Mailserver by a third vendor.

But don't forget to keep security in a right portion to usability.

We arn't talking about the desktop here though, we are talking about a mail relay, and other products have absolutely no problem with multiple virus scan engines. 

For example, Mail scanner (www.mailscanner.info ), Mail Security (www.gfi.com\mailsecurity ) and Sybari Antigen (www.sybari.com ) all manage to include multiple virus scan engines with no trouble.

And yes, I would be willing to pay for multiple virus scan engines. For a home user, that works out at an extra £30 a year, and for a 50 user buisiness network its an extra £470 a year dependant on licensing. 

And Astaro may be able to offer a discount if you purchase multiple engines. This is definately something that astaro should look at providing if it wants to compete in the enterprise market where >90% is not good enough, and also in the paranoid home user market. [:)]   

I would also like a few more options for the smtp proxy such as strip and send and making the outbound smtp proxy a bit more usable i.e virus scanning, attatchment blocking on outbound etc.  

Any ASL developers able to tell me where they stand on the multiple virus scanning engines issue?

Is it something they would consider?

Is it something that has been asked for before?  

This is definately something which has been asked for (several times). We although considered the possibility of having multiple scanners on the box, but for V5 (release) there will be only one. Nevertheless, integrating more than one scan engine has been and still is on the feature wishlist - so stay tuned [:)]

how about reducing/eliminating hte pattern up2dates lags between virus descovery and deployment on ASL up2date servers?  This is becoming more prevalent throughout the forums..even for machines updating hourly? 

Or set the box to get updates directly from kapersky? 

I guess there is some licensing issues somewhere but I'm sure they can be worked out.
