[4.737] Console not in VGA mode anymore after boot

I found on my Compaq Deskpro P-II/350 with a NEC Multisync 3D monitor that ASL 4.737 does not stay in VGA mode like its predecessors (including 4.720), but switches to higher resolution which makes it impossible to work on the console.

As a hint, under Knoppix, I need to provide a boot parameter such as "knoppix vga=normal" to get a decent display on this hardware.

Would be nice to have VGA mode back, so that we can continue to use hardware that is a bit older (I happily trade-in new, fancy graphics on the console for that :-)

    I tried "nosplash" and console comes up ok (e.g. as in 4.720). However, then I found myself without any Ethernet interfaces up which I configured before in Webadmin. Only Loopback lo is up when logging in as root on the console and issueing "ifconfig" command.

    Finally, rebooted without "nosplash" and can gain HTTPS access to Webadmin again, but console with hi-res splash unusable with my VGA monitor...

    Would you like me to check out anything else?
