The market is starting to explore the VPN over SSL. There is a open source called openVPN that works great and suitable to run in Linux. There is some one testing this in ASTARO? I did the test in WindowsXP and Linux and goes great.
in which scenario do you want to use SSL VPN ? Unfortunately at the moment, OpenVPN is somewhat limited if many clients are involved. This should change in the future though :-)

Well is not really a need... It's just another way to set up tunnels using certificates. All the testing I did with OpenVPN where for 2 or 3 users... I wasn't aware of the problem on concurrence. Anyway I consider the program a great pice of open source software.
Anyway for cheap VPN clients (not SSH Sentinel) I have seen that version 5 of Astaro will support L2TP/IPsec using the Microsoft XP VPN Client (free with the O.S.). I will run some tests using the BETA release... and I will start saying all nights a pray for this version 5 comming out as soon as possible.
I would agree that SSL VPN capabilities should be explored. I know that in most companies, PPTP or IPsec/L2TP VPN's are not allowed, due to the lack of open ports on their firewall. Since 443/TCP is a common port that is open, one would think this is an easy way to establish a VPN connection with very little issue.
