[4.702] installation problem with packages.

Please post your hardware information, especially the RAM amount and the disk size. Did the hardware recognition run successfully?

hi it is an lex system
533 MHz via samuel 2 cpu
256MB sdram 
40 GB 2.5"  hdd
3x realtek 8139 10/100 NIC  

I assume it's a faulty RAM problem. You could try to interchange or replace the RAM chips and install again.

If the problem isn't solved, we have to gain some more information. After the installation error occures, please go to the shell console (Alt+F2) and try following command and post the output (NOTE: don't press any key in main/blue installation console - it will umount all destination disk partitions):

chroot /dest
/bin/rpminstall.sh /inst/install-smp.list ; echo Return code: $?
/bin/rpminstall.sh /inst/install-ep.list ; echo Return code: $?
exit

i have it running now (i installed on an other machine) and i have put the disk now in the machine and it works fine.

ok now i try it again to get the normal setup working.(and give U some more info)  

chroot /dest
doesn't work i get this error:
chroot: cannot execute /bin/sh: no such file or directory

and no i didn't toch a key in the blue screen [:P]  

We have the same machine, with similar configuration. I tried with 128 MB RAM chip, and nothing changed. So I doubt that's the problem.

I could do the rpm line by accessing it from /dest/inst/ but I guess that isn't the same. The result was Return code 1 for both lines.  

It soungs like a CPU/kernel issue. Please try another boot options at the beginnig of installation. (Press f1 to get the list)

Well, "classic" doesn't help. Couldn't figure out more (unless you count smp too) .. 

We will try to get the hardware and make local tests.

i have the same Problem with the lex Hardware 533/ 3x Nic Realtec. Packet install faild. Error code  

I've  experienced the same issue on my VIA epia 800 Mhz, 256 MB ram incl TLAN nic., both 4.720 and 4.737 ..............
It seems that the path for rpm can't be found.

Even running the rpminstall.sh with both the smp or ep.list option gives an error code similar to " can't find rpm" .

The prior version 4.021 was running fine. Others distributions from redhat like 7.3, 8 and 9 are installable.  [:S]

this is confirmed and we are working on a fix. although 4.737 still won't install on those boxes, you can install the harddrive on another box and put it back to your lex/via/.. system afterwards (as a workaround)

yup be shure that u connect the hdd drive to the same controller / connector.

btw we can send u guys from astaro an test system if u need one.
