Beta - Installation problem.

in case anybody else experiences problems with booting the installer, please try all the boot options available and tell us if it helped. there are currently (4.702) three boot options:

default (just hit enter or wait some seconds)
classic  (like default, but without ACPI/APIC support)
smp (multiprocessor kernel)

Here's me crack at it.

Test System =
VMWARE Guest
PIII 450
128 Meg RAM
3 AMD NIC's

ASL v4, no issues w/ install or use

ASL Beta 5:

Install hung at INIT: version 2.78 booting 
a. Selected  to install on single processor system.
* System Hung.
b. Selected "classic" to install w/o APIC Support.
* System Hung.
c. Selected "smp" to install on multi-processor system.
* Start time 8:25PM
* Boot passed INIT within seconds (1-2) and when to the Information Screen.
* End time 8:40PM

So far, the system is up at the WebAdmin. I am going to continue and see how it runs... I'm wondering how an "SMP" install will run on a single cpu system??? Guess I will find out.

  

it's just the kernel used for 'discovering' the devices.. feedback on this is very useful for development here.

PS: if anyone experiences problems with VMware4, try setting the 'guest system' to 'other' (instead of 'linux')

Same problem of freezing at ver 2.78 booting

I tried all Kernel options as well as turning Interupt mode to PIC instead of APIC & tested all kernels as well, as well as trying with the acpi=off 

Runs 4.0x fine, Load of 4.702 freezes at the same spot every time.

working on this... (now we have a box where we can reproduce this behaviour)

I have also problems to install the V5!

Hangs @   INIT: version 2.78 booting 

I have tested all 3 bootoptions -- same thing!

I will try to change some BIOS settings, hope this works  

System:

Asus Pundit
P4, 2,4 GHz
1GB Ram
2 Intel Pro/100S Dual Server Adapter  

for the guys having problems when installing with intel hardware:

We had this problem as well with a variety of 845 and 865 chipset boards, which are the only ones giving us any sort of problems. The weird thing is the box is hung, but not locked when it displays INIT 2.78, as if you plug in a usb device you can see the box "detect" it with some lines of text. No idea if this is usb-port releated or not, just wanted to share that. Will try the noapic command, as fooling with several bios options has had no luck for us. 

I have tried the options as posted, but always the same thing!
I have also tried to disable any not needed functions of the borad (sound, 1394..) - no way
Always hang at the INIT.....

So now i will test a other computer to enjoy the new features
