Wow, no responses.

Anyway, I've gotten the binaries made on a development ASL and put them on my live ASL.  It appears to work, I hope.  I just wonder if there's any security issues with running nutmon on ASL.  

have you tested this yet by removing a/c from your ups and seeing if nut trips the boxes?  If so let me know i would be interested in how you did it so i can do it here..[[:)]]  I have a linux server(which will run the nut server) and tie in ASL to that one..[[:)]]

Unfortunately, I haven't had the intestinal fortitude to pull the plug on everything.  I'm just praying that it works when it does happen.

If it happens, I'll post the results here.  

could you send the full details of how you got this to load in ASL?  I will load it up(i am a linux newb so as much detail as possible please..) and will yank the power here..[[:)]]

It's been a little bit, so I'll try and remember how I did it.

I installed ASL4 on a vmware machine and then installed the pluspack on it.
I used PuTTY to login to the temp ASL and secure copied the source to a temp directory on the temp ASL.
I configured the source using --prefix=/opt/ups and --with-user=uucp because I didn't want to go searching for the binaries after they were installed and uucp already existed.
I tarred and gzipped them up and put them on the production ASL in a temp directory and untarred them into /opt/
Then I put a MONITOR line in the upsmon.conf file and when I ran it, it loaded right up.

I hope this helps.  I suck at writing directions.  To make it easier, I'll email the binaries and the startup script to put in /etc/rc.d to you and you can put them on your ASL, if you wan't to use them.  I would suggest you build them yourself to have the peace of mind that no one will compromise your system. 

Edit:  I don't remember if I had to make a rule to allow NUT to pass or not, but the port it uses is 3493.
