TZO Dynamic DNS service install

Had a quick look; it appears to be using an SMTP API that is not hooked up on Astaro (they use somethiing different; see anotifier).

Debugging Perl on Astaro is tough because I found that it's quiet about errors it encounters. I'm not a big fan of Perl if it's code that you'll have to revisit a year from now to adjust...
  

Could I just comment out the lines that use the SMTP function? I really don't need it to notify me by email. I'm running their Win32 client on a machine inside my DMZ but would like to move it to ASL. It's also looking for /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions. where can I get this file?

You might look at a RedHat 8 distro; but as you can see you start to pull leaves from an artichoke, in terms of introducing security issues. Those new components in functions; might they introduce a server hole?

Can you use the DynDNS+ez-ipupdate that Tom K. posted?
If not, we'll muddle through this...
  

I'll see what I can find on my RH8 machine in the basement. I'll give it a look and post results. Until then, thanks for the input.
 

With a little tweaking the TZO DDNS Perl Client should run on the ASL Box. The SMTP mail calls are only if you want to be notified via email if your WAN address changes. I know very well how the client works and if I get a hack for ASL I will post it back here...
  

I did a little checking into why the current version of TZO does not work with ASL. ASL is using a version of perl that does not include IO::Socket::INET which the TZO DDNS client uses. If this is stripped out of the current TZO client and just IO::Socket is called this is the first step to getting it working. I think one of the older perl versions uses just the IO::Socket call.

I have a hacked version working now, I am going to do some cleanup and fix the installer so that it works for an ASL install (with the install wizard). I will post a download location as soon as I have it wrapped up.
