is it possible to monitor my ddclient-perlscript? Everything is working fine with this script but after about a week it stops working for any reasons. I would like to monitor it and start it again if necessary.
I would be interested too, to know how I can add it to the "daemon-watcher"... In the meantime I do not run ddclient in daemon mode but have it run by cron every 5 minutes.
That is interesting. I thougt this problem is a failiure in my setup. i also run it in deamon mode... does the cron mode only update a changed ip address?? i used an hardware router that updated every 2 minutes the dyndns database and so they killed my account there... so ddclient should only update a chaned ip and not an unchanged. he does so in deamon mode and so i thinkt it is the same in cron mode. but like you i am interested in a monitoring tool too or in a fix to stop this failure of the ddclient. have you build a chroot for it??
I too would like to see ddclient properly included as stock. But a current version will query a cache file and not try to update unless the IP has changed. So most of the time it works as a hack to ASL.
I'm more concerned about everything thing else reacting properly to an IP change. Dyndns gets updated just fine but the VPNs don't always update without a lot of lag time.
A good dynamic DNS client like ddclient and proper scripts to update VPNs and other depentant apps would be great. Also, if Network/Definitions could specify DNS instead of just IPs which could be from dyndns would be wonderful. IPSEC can use DNS endpoints but ASL doesn't include the Webadmin option for it. Most corporate users have static IPs but many smaller offices do not yet are allowed to run servers. Dyndns and ASL hacks make most of it work on a dynamic IP.
