Astaro 4.0 stopping

I have had a problem like this, that I hope someone might explain or tell me how to find out what happend. This is a very strange problem so let me explain. 

I am running ASL 4.0. Yesterday 02/24/03 I was at work and SSH'ed into my webserver running some patches on it. Around 4:00pm I lost my connection attempted to reconnect but was unable to. I was unable to make any connection to any machine behind the firewall. I wrote it off as my screw up on the patching till my mail server (a different machine all together) also stopped resonding as well as my desktop pc. I was able to get into the ASL box thru SSH and webmin. I didn't see anything strange in the logs. so I let it all go till I got home. When I got home all the computers behind ASL were up and running. However the outside world was dead. I also was unable to get to ASL from SSH or webmin from inside the lan. I had to go to the console and reboot the machine(good thing I had a keyboard on it still) after a reboot everything went back to normal operations. now I didn't notice as I said anything in the logs but maybe I am no looking in the right place. Also it gets a bit strange from here on out. A friend of mine that I turned on to ASL also had the very same problem and symptoms the sametime/day with his ASL box. So I am first wondering anyone else have this problem as well? Or was it a fluke on both our parts? Any help on this would be great, I don't really want this happening all the time.. 

Ok this happened again to me. now the time frame this time I have no idea. I woke up this morning and my connection to the outside was down. When I rebooted I noticed that it failed stopping services. Iptables ident all failed. so they all just stopped. Is anyone else having this problem? 

Ive saw in another thread something that can be related to my problem: 
as my primary interface is a Realtek 8189 i will replace his entry  in /etc/modules by 8139too this weekend

I hope thats the solution, maybe its my interface that is stopping after a while. i will post the result after that.

I also saw the samething and all 3 of my nics are Realtek 8139's. I did replace with 8139too yesterday. And am still watching for progress. Now if that is the problem and this fixes it then that says there is a problem in the 8139 drivers in v4, I didn't have problems in v3.2. Can any astaro people confirm or deney this at all?

Also if it is the drivers for the 8139 cards. can someone recomend some decent cards besides the 8139 that they are using and have had little to no problems with. Thanks. 

I think 3com and Intel's NIC have no problems.or,can I reinstall the NIC's dirver in ASL4.00? 

Great! my NIC changes worked also! definitely it was the Realtek driver. 2 days passed so far and no sign of FW stopping.

My other cards are 3Com also and never had a problem.

I am at 2days 23hrs and it has not stopped yet. so I do believe the problem is in the driver for the Realtek Cards... If it happens again however I will post and look some place else for the problem. 

Bad news for me... 4.0 continues to stop once in a while. I dont see any relevant erros in the logs (and its not the Realtek interface again) , and so far never had the oportunity to make some tests, It stops always when i am not available...great...

I will post if i discover more details.

Well, after weeks running Astaro with the older 3 version, because with the V4 my box keeps stopping, i ve now changed today my REALTEK nic to a 3Com one.

I ve installed again the V4 of ASL. Lets see how it works now.
