Ummm, when will this be solved? freeing unused

Hey there,

I have seen other posts like this. I know that there is a problem with the current Beta of Astaro, which means if you use a K5,K6 or P1 Processor then the machine falls over while booting at "freeing unsed memory 76k"

Now this is a bit of a pain, cause i have an ADSL connection and i need a linux firewall that supports PPPOA because the UK ADSL runs over PPPOA not PPPOE. And astaro is the only firewall i have found that will support it - is this right?, are there any others that will do it??

Anyways, when will this problem be fixed so i can see past "freeing unsed memory 76k" and run Astaro?? Just a nice quick answer would be nice and if anyone could comment on another firewall that supports PPPOA that would be fantastic!!

This won't be fixed. ASL 4.000 is out, and there is no support for AMDK6/Intel P1.

Right, thats a bit of a shame cause now i cant use it on my K5 processor! And being 16 comes with a few money problems so i cant upgrade!! This is a shame, will it ever be supported? If so when can we expect the release that will suport K5, K6, and PI processors? Also does anyone know of any alternatives that can support my PPPOA connection?

and sorry - no - there's no ETA yet.. please be patient and stay with v3.2 on your K6/P1/..

Hey there,

Great news to hear it will be fixed! The problem is you see, that i cant use previous versions of Astaro because it doesnt support UK ADSL lines? Or does it? I am using a EN5861, would it work? Or do i have to wait until i can use version 4 - when it supports the older processor? Thanks for any help

PPPoE is supported in v3.2 as well... PPPoA is new in V4 ...

Hi, sorry to keep asking questions. But just to clarify i cant use any versions of Astaro before version 4 because i have a UK ADSL line and it runs over PPPOA and only version 4 has PPPOA enabled?

Charlie - does your ENxxxx ADSL router have Ethernet ports ? If it does then you can simply connect it to ASL using a NIC - PPPoA support is not required in this case.

Been reading a lot of posts on this subject. And I was dl V4.000 today incl. the manual.

The manual is from the 14-2-2003 and says (on page 18) - quote:

"Hardware:

Processor: Intel Pentium I, AMD Athlon K6, or better
"

So, is this true, that it supports this now. (you said in an earlier posting that it would not be supported in v4.000 but in an update like v4.0xx??
