    Hi all,

    not only rumors but facts:

    we have a beta snapshot ISO-image (asl-4.107.iso.gz) of the upcoming version ASL 4.007 with support for P1/K6/C3/APIC ready for download  on this FTP-Server:

    User: pck
    Password: astaro

    Size: 103.918.768 Bytes
    MD5: fe48bea9b8a5d640f3dce7f041ddcf12

    Installation of backup files from version 3.2 and V4 will work as well as backup files from this beta version on the  final 4.007. Pattern Up2Date is enabled but not System Up2Date.

    Whats new in ASL 4.007:
     - new kernel (changed NIC driver)
     - new glibc
     - support for Compaq SmartArray 5 and Adaptec I2O RAID

    We would like to read your reports about this beta ISO in this UBB thread - thx in advance.


    After the final 4.007 announcement we will release an auto upgrade facility. This will allow registered customers to automatically elect to (1) stay with either the v2 or V3 branch; or (2) update to V4 without requiring a CD load.

    First impressions:
    It seems to work as expected on the Epia 800. The onboard NIC (Sis900 or Rhine II) is found and works for getting pattern updates and accessing the WUI.

    The WUI is not as snappy as when running on a, say, Celeron 1700, but it is way faster than the WUI of ASL 2.x. Overall, the speed is definitely not an issue so far.

    I'll be installing the box here in my home network and then we'll see how it does hold it's own.
    But as usual with ASL products, I do not have any major concerns regarding the quality of the product.

    To Astaro:
    Are there specific areas that are especially interesting to trawl for bugs after the somewaht major updates in the base?

    Well so far I am very happy with this version, the interface is much faster than before.  It seems to boot up much faster too.  I will put this into my network tonight and hammer away at it.

    I use PPPoE on my new 4.107. Advanced options in Network -> Interfaces -> "My PPPoE-interface" does not sport the MTU option which means that accessing some hosts on the Internet does not work out of the box.

    Running ifconfig as root gives me this:

    The MTU for the "hosting" interface (eth4) is 1500 which is OK, but 1500 for ppp0 seems a bit large for me... 1492 or 1452 is usually a more usable value.

    ps x gives me this:

    The MTU seems to have been taken care of... somewhat..
    It just doesn't show using ifconfig.

    Where do I edit the PPPoE configuration manually?

    And how about an option for MSS clamping?

    This is a crosspost in the BETA Forum: 

    I've successfully installed and am now running 4.107 with a PI and 164Mb RAM (see below). I was able to import backup files from my previous 3.207 installation. 

    I have all the spam filtering turned on and will be hitting the HTTP and  DNS Proxy very hard using grub (http://grub.org) within the coming days.  

    I did have some problems initially not being able to login to the webadmin. I had imported settings specifying webadmin_port = 8888. I didn't see it listening so I cleared this setting (/etc/wfe/conf/settings), restarted the system and was then able to login via webadmin. Changing the webadmin_port within webadmin was accepted and is working fine. 

    Although everything seems to be functioning fine, my system is logging the following in /var/log/mdwlog about every 3 seconds:
