I see that the 3.390 version is out, but I saw the info stating that pentium I and AMD K6 processors will not be supported in the final version. I am wondering how this might impact the hardware I am currently using. I currently have a via epia mainboard w/ an 800mhz c3 processor. The first 2 betas will not install, and I am aware of the lack odf support for the pentium I and amd k6 processors, but would this hardware be considered to be in the same class as the pentium/k6 support wise? [:S]
I'm quite concerned with this too because I have a Pentium 166 with 256Mb of ram runing asl with no problems, protecting a home internal network with an adsl connection, and I'm not in the mood to upgrade my firewall pc $$$ ....

Well I juyst installed the 3.390 and got the same result as with th other 2 betas. It would install fine, but once I reboot, it will hang when it gets to freeing unused kernel memory 76k. Maybe the epia boards will not be supported after all. [:(]y hardware.
I´m quite disappointed as well that they will not support PentiumI - for me, as a private user, there is no need to have "heavy" hardware for a "simple" firewall.
Maybe their marketing thought that v4 would be the right time to "force" users & customers to upgrade their hardware so they can develop much more sophisticated features :-(
Astaro, why can´t you provide us with a unsupported kernel version for K6/PI - is it that hard to implement?
Perhaps, they may include support for these processors eventually, but not right away. I don't know. I don't believe it is an issue of getting the kernel to work w/ these processors. I have seen other examples of the kernel working with even less powerful processors than the examples here, it is probably more of an issue of getting the other features to work with more of the current hardware first. They may very well get ver 4 to work w/ some of the older hardware, with subsequent releases of ver 4. I am not sure of this, but all we can do is wait and see unless some of the Astaro admins want to add their input here. [:(]
