Are there any plans to support the LDAP which comes with E-Directory in V4. The beta currently supports OpenLDAP and Active Directory, any chance we would see anything for E-Directory
I agree, Novell is making the push into Identity Management and all their offerings are based on E-Directory (NDS) which runs on multiple platforms (*NIX, WIN32, Netware. Being able to integrate a product and handle any authentication from a centralized database would make any product attractive to E-Directory shops.
I hate to ring in here with a "mee too" post, but as a network admin dealing with Novell for well over 10yrs, when I installed my 1st ASL, my very first reaction to the user auth section was oh, shucks, it can't do NDS, and now with LDAP being pushed by Novell, it seems like such a cross platform shame not to do it...
If you want to test you product with Novell's E-directory all you have to do is ask Novell. Upon successful interoperability your product gets the Novell's "Yes Tested and Approved" certification. This would help give the product credence in Novell environments (where everything is E-Directory based and aware), especially with the demise of Bordermanager a certainty. I'd suggest you contact your local Novell office and they will do whatever it takes to help you get the product certified.
E-Directory already runs on Linux, a little interoperability and API usage may provide Astaro a leg up on other Security vendors who are aiming to replace Bordermanager and the tight integration it had with E-Directory (NDS). This could become a marketing plus if handled properly.

Getting it working with eDirectory shouldn't be too hard - the complicated thing is extending eDirectory with the various classes (posixAccount, posixGroup, shadowAccount and one or two more) so you can do unix-style authentication via PAM.
It can be done (I've done it, and run a few dozen Linux boxes against eDirectory for authentication), but the bulk of the changes are on the eDirectory side.
