SMTP Queue - too many messages notification

Can someone please adivise on how to create or modify the current scripts to provide a notification alert when the SMTP Queue reaches X number of messages for troubleshooting purposes.

Maybe it will send an alert to external e-mail address? or "any other ideas"?

Usually, if its starts queuing up, it means that upstream Mail server (Exchange in my case) is not accepting SMTP traffic due to Internet Connector Faluire or other reasons.

So, I am would like to have this functionality in the ASL that would alert me of a problem when necessary.

    Hm, if your upstream mail server can't be reached, how is your ASL supposed to deliver the alert mail to you if it is configured to deliver mail via that mail server?  [:)] 
    It is a general good advice to check your system logs from time to time...

    A simple solution would be to send yourself an email (every hour, every 15 minutes, whatever) to a special account just to see if your mail system works, and have a little script program trigger an alert on your receiver machine if you don't get your mail in time.

    I agree with yashax. I would like something that will notify me if I have over X number of items in the Proxy Manger. Can't be too hard to do I wouldn't think.
