ASL 3.040 locking up occasionally

Hi all,

I'm running version 3.040 and the system occasionally hangs for no apparent reason. My setup is:

PII 350mhz
128MB RAM
eth0 3Com 905B (inside)
eth1 Intel (DMZ)
eth2 SMC 10/100 (outside with PPoE)

I've been monitoring the hardware, and the system never overheats or displays any other problem. I've used this hardware in the past with other OS's and never had any problems.

Anyone else experiencing random locks?

I have seen this frequently with 3.40 and 3.41. The problem is definetly around the DHCP, PPoE, IPSec areas. I have another identical box with the same software with static interfaces and all has been well for weeks.

Intersting...I was using the DHCP server function, but I turned it off. I also turned off Accounting, and lowered my logging level...it hasn't locked in over 24 hours...so maybe that worked. I hope its not the PPPoE feature...I really love that one.

I also think it's the dhcp client. Sometimes the box just hangs, displays a IP number from pppoe but when pinging to the outside it says no route to host... :-( so when rebooting everything's fine... haha, funny, like on my M$-box ;-)

My setup (test firewall) is 3.04
Asus Board
128 megs SDRAM
Celeron 333

I used to get lockups just about everyday when I had my DHCP enabled. When I had 3.03 with PPPoE running. When I updated to 3.04 I reinstalled fresh and redid all the rules. I didn't use DHCP but I am using PPPoE. I have not had any problems.

SO i think the DHCP service is locking up also
