ACK! Sorry for the blank Post... I hit tab and started typing, Poof it posted it self. Oh well.
Anyway, I'm running 3.41, everything is great for the most part. I've got Http proxy running and it's been doing an awesome job. However... I went to update one of my computers using http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (I'm running XP BTW) it pops up and I clicked "Scan my computer for updates" or what ever. It then says your IE is out of date and that I need to update. I try it on another computer (all XP) and it says the same thing. Very VERY odd. So then I turn off HTTP Proxy, hit reload and "Poof" it works perfectly. Scans my computer installs everything. I turn HTTP Proxy back on.. No go same error. I've got the http proxy striped to nothing but "Proxy" so no ad banner or cookie blocker. I hope this can be fix 25% - 30% of all my web traffic was hitting the proxy cache before and I with limited upstream on my cable modem and 5 people using it heavily it helped a lot.
I dont have any winXP boxes here due to a lot of issues with it. But all my computers Win2000s www.windowsupdate.com work fine and install fine through proxy
My clients run Windows 2000 SP2, IE 6.0.2600, behind Astaro 2.023, http proxy enabled, transparent disabled.
Behind Astaro 2.x, using W2k/IE 5.0, 5.5 & 6.0, several web sites I use (including windowsupdate.microsoft.com) will not work properly unless I enter them as Exceptions under Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings/Advanced. Exceptions evidently bypass the proxy.
I haven't yet tried XP, but if it uses IE 6.x, the same may apply.
This does not sound like your problem, but for a lot of us, a fresh install of W2k often gets us a blank windowsupdate from the outset, proxy or no proxy, firewall or no firewall, & we have to go through a trouble shooting process at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q193701 to get windowsupdate to work. Microsoft never got this fixed in W2k as far as I know, & the problem might have carried over to XP.
Biffa is right. I figured that form the start but what do you do about it? I want to use the proxy but I also want to use Windowsupdate. This was not a problem with any other version of Astaro thus far. Beta or non. How ever Windowsupdate did change the way they do things. The XP Version of Windowsupdate is FAR different from the 2K or 98. So again what is to be done.
In the HTTP proxy config, change the anonymity to "None" that should do it, you can test it by changing the Anonymity and the Content filter settings and visiting:

I guess I didn't give the details in the 1'st post. Those are the settings I've got. Transparent, anonymity set to "none" and everything else unchecked. Still a no go. The link you posted works but comes back with all the right info. Here is the error I get from WindowsUpdate however.

The Windows Update software did not update successfully. Below are some suggestions to help you proceed: You may have clicked No when prompted to accept the Trust Certificate. To allow the Windows Update site software to install, click Yes when presented with the Security Warning dialog box. Your Internet Explorer security settings may be set too high. To install the updated software and access Windows Update, Internet Explorer security must be set to medium or lower, and active scripting and the download and initialization of ActiveX controls must be enabled.
Note These are the default settings for Internet Explorer. For more information about Internet Explorer security and instructions on how to change your security settings, read Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q174360.

I've tried setting my security setting.. Doesn't help. Any other ideas?
