Installation troubles... on compaq server

Hi

I dont know if this has been posted be4 I read something in a diffrent forum about problems getting ASL running on a Compaq machine. I just recent bought this compaq proliant server model 1600 on a auction. I took out the RAID so I just use the standard onboard SCSI controller.
Here's the setup:

P2-300 / 256MB ram / onboard adaptec scsi / 9gb SCSI drive / 2 * 10/100 Intel Managed NIC / 1 * 3com NIC.

ASL Tried beta 3.30 and 3.40

Now what happen's is:
- I pop in the CD... fine
- ASL boot's up from CD and goes true step 1 - 2 - 3 ... fine
- It find's all the hardware, the 3 NIC's and the Disk but under CD-ROM Drive(s) it say's -(null)

now when I hit ENTER to get the installation running it gives me right away:

Information
Installation failed
Please remove CD-ROM ...

when I hit ALT+F4 it gives me all kinds of interresting stuff.
CD_ROM drive found:
Needed disk space: 1746944, disk size: 8891620
parts[0]: Type 83 ....(all the stuff till parts[8]
Looking for install media
Trying to mount /dev/ on /install
PHASE END: hw_conf

and that's it

on alt+F4 i have the last 2 lines:
Partition check:
 sda: sda1

that's it... installation fail's. I will try to install ASL 2.x now to see if that works...
