SNMPD problem with 3.0.40

Here what I got after installing v3.0.40 :

[asl.domain.com] SelfMonitoring: No pid for SNMPD - restarting(586 times)

No pid for SNMPD - restarting

Last WebAdmin login: admin at 03/13/02 from 192.168.101.2
System Uptime: 0 days 2 hours 55 minutes
System Load: 0.42
System Version: Astaro Security Linux 3.040

Please refer to the manual for detailed instructions.

Any Idea what's wrong???

3.0.20 had the same issue. I'm not sure if 3.0.40's issue is related. If I find an answer, or useful information, I'll post.

FYI:
I have the same problem and if I go to the console and try to start the SNMP service manually via /sbin/init.d/snmpd start i get
and "illiegal command" error and it flags tha chroot line that actually start snmpd in the chroot jail.

I tried this

uj:/var/chroot-snmp.mrtg/bin # /sbin/init.d/snmpd start
Starting snmpd:/sbin/init.d/snmpd: line 46: 3049 Illegal instruction chroot /var/chroot-snmp.mrtg /usr/sbin/snmpd

the reason might be that the snmpd programm does not exist in /usr/sbin !

It does not exist in the hole distribution of the beta version at all.

Maybe a quick up2date can add the missing file and snmp will work again
