I do too, but can't seem to get any help. So this is my attempt to holler our for HELP! Someone out there has to be doing OSPF and Zebra or may have thought about it.
Ok, but is there anybody out there that has tried using OSPF. There was a similar post awhile back and the last guy gave up due to the lack of response. He stopped using Astaro. I have OSPF working on Linux Redhat 4.2 and it works great. It would be nice to get this working on Astaro. That way I can have 2 boxes configured similar and 1 single point of failure. Someone out there has to know why I keep getting this error message in Astaro. Kernel options maybe? Well whatever the reason, I am close to giving up and switching to IPCop, which is based on a Redhat Linux rpms.
I'll post an update to let ya'll know if OSPF and Zebra work on IPCop. That will tell me if they have the right kernel options compiled in to route multicast traffic and join a multicast group which I think is not set up right in Astaro.
Ok, I must step in now as well. My work has ALREADY put in the order for a nice license of Astaro (thanks to me, we ordered the unlimited IP version). But, as almost all of our routing it dynamic, OSPF, BGP, and even RIP support would be nice. We are a Network Management company with private connections to all our clients.
I want to be able to allow some employees to work from home, etc, but dynamic routing is a must in near future plans. As it stands, I can not even add the needed routes for myself over the VPN to some of our clients, because there is no option to use ipsec1, only eth0 and eth1 when inputting static routes.
before I start on BGP/OSPF, i'd like to point out that ASLs focus lies on network security, not network management. However, with the upcoming 3.2 release, more management functions will be build in, like a (simple) DHCP server.
Dynamic routing is a world of its own. We could build another WebAdmin with ~20 pages if we wanted to cover all available protocols and their options.
We DO listen to our customers however, and if even more people request dynamic routing, we MAY implement this.
Thats the bad news. Now for the good news.
ASL is Linux and can run OSPF/RIP/BGP/whatever perfectly. If you can live with a bit of work on the shell and the lack of a GUI, it should be possible to use Zebra (for example) on ASL.
I can assist you in setting it up. However, this project would not be "officially" supported by Astaro itself. Please email me at tom@duncanthrax.net if you are interested.
I just wanted to say thanks to everybody. I really appreciate all the feedback and the response. I know this is not supported, but working together we can get it working for those that need it.
I already set up Zebra and posted a howto on the previous Zebra posting. Search on OSPF and Zebra. It isn't all that hard. I also have compiled binary code I can tar and post up. The problem is that I keep getting this error message.
************************************************ interface x.x.x.x join AllSPFRouters Multicast group
*** sendto in ospf_write failed with Operation not permitted ************************************************
I just need to know why I am getting this error message and what to do to fix it. I think it is kernel compile options? It works fine In Redhat and Slackware. Running a netstat -g on Astaro does not show the multicast group.
