DynDNS / making ASL LAN available from outside

Hi there,

does anybody knows if it will be possible to make ASL use a "dynamic DNS" service eg. "dynDNS". To make the ASL protected LAN available to the internet via a unique dyn. DNS name...
(I think SmoothWall uses dynDNS). Is this perhaps planned for future release, or can it be done by "hacking" it into ASL...

any chance - any ideas?

    Yepp, it works perfect ;-)
    As client I use the precompiled ez-ipupdate, you can find it in the client-section of dyndns.org.
    It doesn't ransfer the updates via https, ok, but I wanted a fast solution ;-)

    Hi,

    well, I didn't care so much about things- so no chroot or so. Unzip the package (I don't have it here now, I guess the chroot-dirs are in /var/chroot-* so e.g. in /var/ez-ipupdate. Configure the example.dyndns(?) and rename it to s.th. useful- dyndns.conf for example.
    Then take an initscript(I took the 'named') from /etc/rc.d/ and drop all useless stuff- like the CR Variable and in the if-start section the chroot- and rename it to ez-ipupdate.
    For the program name use "/var/ez-ipupdate/ez-ipupdate -c /var/ez-ipupdate/dyndns.conf -???" (replace ??? with the command it should run as loginuser, look at 'ez-ipupdate --help')
    Now try using "ez-ipupdate start" and you should see the output of the program. Don't forget the symlinks to the init-states (rc.0, 3,6)
    Be sure to set the permissions right (chown root, chmod 700/600).
    I can post my init-script when I'm back home, till then you can play with only the command (ez-ipupdate, in dyndns.conf leave 'deamon' commented)

    maybe that will sound stupid but anyway...  

    instead of using a script on the astaro itself i'm using DynSite for windows on a server that is always up and running inside my network.

    DynSite is able to monitor external ip change automaticly and update MOST of dynamic DNS...  that software work for more then 20 dynamic dns service avalable on the net.
