usage of ntp server

Hi,

i work on 3.030 and use a ntp server (from nasa.org). When i set my timezone to "USA-Pazific" i get a complete wrong time (8 hours ahead), but if i set my timezone to "Etc - GMT-8" it works. Shouldn't it be the same?
Now of course my logfiles are a little messy, is there a way to clean them again, or is it just a metter of time until i get right reports again?
