I'm using the current 2.x release. Can I convert it to ext3 without any problems? I know reiserfs is a no-go for existing filesystems but ext3 should work. Plus it journals metadata and data. Right? Has anyone done this with 2.x? If so what streps did they take? Thanks
I think if you could find a way to build a newer version of the e2fs tools and recompile the kernel to include an ext3 patch or an ext3 module included within initrd, you should be able to do this.
I'd question recompiling the kernel, especially with new kernel source, as you would most likely be compromising any security that was originally written into the Astaro kernel.

It's definately not included as a module. In fact, I don't think EXT3 was present in a plain vanilla kernel as of version 2.4.8 (the kernel they're using in ASL 2.x) - it was integrated I believe by 2.4.14 or so.
In short, probably not - unless you can find a means of compiling the ext3 drivers into modules, and then rebuilding the initrd boot image.
Forget it. I'll wait for the next release of 3.x with reiserfs. Too bad ext3 wasn't an option. Hopefully they've fixed the nacctd restart issue. Thanks for your input.
