Recompile Astaro Kernel

What functionality do you need that is not in the existing kernel and not in modules that can be loaded.

OSPF support. It requires multicast routing in the kernel. I need to implement it now and can't wait for beta testing on the newer 3.x kernels.

Recompiling the kernel is no problem.

Just compile the kernel on a box which is fully installed with compiler and libraries ...

Then just put the vmlinuz / System.map ,... files
on the Astaro machine.

You will need to fiddle a bit to rerun lilo 
but some symbolic links will solve the problem.

Tijl, as we don't have access to the kernel config file, I'd be very interested in how you can get away with this without ending up with either

1. a kernel with missing functionality, or
2. a kernel which is no longer as secure as it should be.

Please enlighten me. I don't understand how you can do without Astaro's kernel config file and still maintain a secured system when doing a recompile.
