PPPoE with DHCP, webadmin rulesets in 3.0.2

ADSL / DHCPd support is announced and in the works for the next beta (most wanted feature ever  [;)]ll be supported by placeholders.

ASL said mid-feb for the RC1 of ASL.  he said there would be 3 beta3 versions.  So this is 1.  You figure another by mid jan. and another by end of jan.

Hopefully it works out this way.   I rather have a stable product and have it take longer to develope then a crappy rushed Microsoft product.... opps did I say MS?  =)

But will it then take until mid-feb(...or longer) till these features work?
If it really takes so long for this(for me) essential 'feature', I guess I've to swap to another product- mabye with not that much features- but the ones I really need...  and propably come back to astaro if they are so far    [:(]   
Don't miss me, astaro guys: You really have a great, secure product, and I really honor your work- but another two or three months... this is too much for me. And I know people changing to other products for this reason.

So thanks for the info, Resistance- mabye I'm wrong with the three months- if not, see you then ;-)

im using a hardware firewall router the SOHO kind... its ok but I do some advanced configs at home testing products....  So the wait isnt to bad.  You will come back to astaro trust me

besides the PPPoE support is mostly for home users and of course Astaro makes no money on that...  So its cool they are adding it for us.

Honestly the release time isn't that bad.  Astaro has to release a very secure produect that is ment for enterprise level equipment and networks.  Any security loopholes means they are liable so they can't really rush release.  They add a few key things each beta so that everything is fully tested.  I am happy with the way many of us posted about problems and they way ASL has corrected them.  

And also the number of hackers out there who help ASL provide the current product is also a HUGE help.  Thank god for open source =)

Yepp, you're right.
The features astaro has and security is not comparable to others. I'm now using another one- fast&easy, but- not as long the many other features. I know I'll come back, so I hope the guys are going on well ;-)

Not True!!! I have 6 Costumers whaiting for that feature... they have commercial ADSL for small enterprise witch is PPPOE!!!!

6 is a very small number.   Besides though without a static IP you can't run most external services.  Such as a web server, mail server, VPN.   you CAN but you have to keep up every month on changing the IPs and no one is gonna do that.

I didn't say that PPPoE isn't for Biz.  But rather anyone who needs a firewall like ASL is not gonna use PPPoE.  Any small biz PPPoE users just use a small SOHO router/gateway like Linksys or Dlinks.

For your information, many ISPs in North America, like Canada, have begun to provide ADSL for small business (10-100 PCs) and not just for SOHO as you said. 

You can get ADSL for a 3Mbits Downstream and 670Kbits Upstream connection with static IPs for about 350$CA per month...

It's a reality; the ADSL technology is good and is less expensive than the traditional T1 that cost a lot of money. 

I think that implement PPPoE in ASL is not just a cool option for us, but a must. Because other company like Astaro, are already providing a Linux firewall box integrated with PPPoE (see www.securepoint.cc). 

If we want to provide a good firewall solution with ASL to our customers, who are demanding new technology based on ADSL, I guest that Astaro have no choice to keep competitive with others and try to get more customers in North America and in the rest of the world with the ADSL technology.

Keep in mind that I don't want to offend anybody; it's just an opinion...
