basically SMTP (exim) is running all the time because it needs to provide notification support. The check has been adjusted in such a fashion that it would show "gray" color if it is running but MailSec is turned off. If it is yellow now it could mean that the exim is not running on the system ... or our check mechanism is wrong.
We will look into this matter, thanks for pointing it out.
Could I kindly ask you to check on your system whether exim is actually running?
I've just sent the mail with the information. Today the exim is running, which means
that the services are shown grey.
About your statment. OK, I understand that gray means that Exim is running but now MailSec. But what about the FTP Proxy? It show's as gray but it's not turned on. There
is no process running for this is there?
A bit of background explanation about the service stuff:
A service group like MailSec or WebSec is: => green if all sub-services which are currently running do not have any issues => red if one or more sub-services do have issues (e.g. not running, but should) => gray if none of the sub-services are configured
Now with MailSec and the smtp/exim service it is a bit different because as I have said, exim is always running. Normally, you do not want to have sub-services running if you did not configure them. With smtp/exim we had to make an exception.
Regarding the ftp-proxy ... if you have not enabled it in the WebAdmin it should not be running, hence it is grayed out. If no other sub-service in WebSec is activated than WebSec will show gray as well.
There is only one other exception. When you have an HA/cluster system, the ntpd sub-service in the Misc service group will also always run.
For all other sub-services it is not normal that they run when they are not configured. Hence they will be shown with yellow traffic lights. E.g. if your http-proxy is running although you never activated it.
