please turn on anti-spam

I used to admin a vbulletin 3.8x forum.  I ahd to do a ton of work into keeping spammers from one registering and then posting.

Two things:

Admins:

1/. go get an akismet key and activate the in the forums admincp

2.  Look into installing the stopforumspam.com modification at stopforumspam.com.  

between these two I managed to nearly eliminate spammers form the forums.

    On Friday, between Wingman and me, we zapped about 30 posts and banned a dozen usernames from a single IP in China, 124.193.170.162.  Each time I banned the jerk, I selected the option to ban the IP, but that part never "took."  William, do you know if there's a way to make the IP-banning work - or is that a bug in the software?

    ip banning isn't really a good option...it's really easy to ip proxy  around ip bans..hence my suggestion about kismet and the stop forum  spam.
