Sophos Firewall: v19.0 EAP1: Feedback and experiences

Upgrade went smoothly: rebooted into 18.5 MR-1, then did the upload and reboot to EAP1.

Web interface seems snappier. I like the reorganization, makes a lot of sense.

I WISH I had multiple gateways, but I'm able to use SDWAN monitoring to get some idea of jitter. (Not sure what's behind the calculation and whether, in the long run, it will give me something to indicate when any VOIP problems might be due to ISP or general internet jitter issues.)

It seems to currently be confused about how many firewall rules are "unused". The control center indicates 14 of 14 rules "unused", but I can look and see traffic on at least half of them. Going into Firewall Rules and using a filter confirms this: all the rules show up as unused.

I like the way things are going from 18 to 18.5 and now to 19.

1. So if i wanna to upgrade i just meed to be booted to 18.5 mr1? Cuz now ive got two images mr1 and mr2 im on mr2 and i have thought to make an update just uploading on "backup" mr1 image. After upload its asking "sophos will boot from this image with factory default continue?" - is this normal? I dont want to factory default my whole setup even if its at home

Yes. Boot in MR1, then do the update.

So then, can i just switch between images without any problems? Or its not recommended.?

You will loose some functions switching back.

Yes its obvious. V19 has some goodies that arent in v18.5 ;)

Switching back and forth could be a problem if you make changes to either one. Say you're in EAP 19 and add a firewall rule and three Web exceptions. Switch to MR1 and they're gone. If you're only intending to test EAP from time to time and want to stick with MR1, probably not an issue.

I have rebooted  to mr1 but i cant update to v19. Only from mr2 which is not supported. So i just must wait i guess?

When you say you can't update, do you mean that the update is not appearing as an option, or that you download the EAP and it won't install?

I have booted from mr2 to mr1 and i havent seen an option to "load firmware" on mr1 it was only available  on MR2. Thats why i was confused  cuz mr2 isnt supported. Nonetheless i did manage it so update went smoothly  ;)
