Auto throttling of torrent traffic

Hi to all.

As I am new to XG firewall, I could use some help in the following scenario:

I have a dedicated machine for torrent downloading and I want it to be able to use all of my available bandwidth for doing so if there is no other web traffic request by any other device in my network, but to get auto-throttled down by XG to a specific limit in case any other device has a web traffic request, so they can also access the internet without noticing delays.

I understand that this should be done via some kind of QoS traffic shaping policy but I don’t want to limit permanently the downloading machine or try to guarantee all the rest kind of applications...

Maybe I need to apply somehow a lower QoS priority only to the torrent traffic but can this been done without any permanent limitation?

Thank you all in advance.

  • Hi

You could try applying a lower QoS priority policy to your dedicated torrent machine, while having another firewall rule applying a higher QoS priority policy to web traffic coming from the rest of your network. See the following KB for further information, also note the related QoS articles at the bottom of the page.
