How to retrieve system logs using the API or other HTTP based option?

Question

I'm looking for a way to script retrieval of the system logs using the API or any other HTTP based method. 
 Syslog is not an option since we would prefer not to push all logs unencrypted over internet. 
 Does anyone know a a scriptable way to retrieve the system/event logs of the firewall?
