Sophos XG support for old Broadcom LAN

Hi,

I decided to expand my LAB and trying messing around with old IBM x3550 server which has Broadcom NICs.

The rest is history :)

Current XG v17 MR-3 has exactly the same issue:
https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/utm-9-public-beta-closed/64157/8-920-bug-problem-broadcom-firmware

Error message: bnx2: Can't load firmware file "bnx2/bnx2-mips-06-6.2.3.fw"

Trying to assign an ip address via ifconfig leads to SIOCSIFFLAGS error.

I guess the firmware wasn't included in the kernel or ram disc so the nics are not usable

Is it indented or it's a "bug" ?

  • Same behavior, unfortunately, in XG v17 MR5 fresh install.

Sophos it has been a month and a MR already. How long will it take to apply a fix that you already solved back in 2012?

  • 2012 there was only the UTM. no XG.

IBM 3550 built when, if remember correctly was old in 2008 and you still expect support. When I started with a new company in 2006, they had a 3550 and then it was quite old.
