PPPoe is defaulting to 128.0.0.1 - Quite stuck

Hi I have an XG85 and have successfully gotten the lan side to see the pc I am logged on with.

I have a router that connects to the modem and am using that to research what to do.  I disconnect that and hook up the XG85 and then adjust the settings.

on the XG85 set up the modem is connected to port 2 and the lan side is connected to port 1.

I had it working momentarily and then had to reset the firewall.  erasing my settings.

Port 1 is the gateway for 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.60 on a subnet of 255.255.255.0

port 2 defaulting to PPPoe 128.0.0.1 and nothing will change it.

I have tried to set DHCP and DNS to look at my IP provider DNS addresses

I would think DHCP and Dns from my ISP would self propagate to the PPPoe  but it does not.

I can even see all the settings from my other router.

Wan IP address 206.248.178.248

Wan subnet 255.255.255.255

Wan gateway   206.248.155.244

Wan DNS

206.248.154.170

206.248.154.22

I am stuck and do not know what to do.

after this I still need to configure http to the lan zone.

Lots more to go.

Thanks and regards Rick M

  • Hi Rick,

if you wish to use PPPoE you need to put the router in bridge mode.

The router will not propagate any information you will need to set up a dhcp function on your router for your XG to obtain an external IP address or put the router in bridge mode.
