Future XG16 releases?

Hi Sophos Community

I'm new here and I have my first question, unfortunately I don't find a better group for it as "Initial Setup"...

Does anybody know if there is a roadmap for the XG16 releases? Does Sophos plan to publish additional MR for XG16(.5)?

Or is the only way to get frequent updates the update to version 17?

    I couldn't find any new Maintenance Releases of V16.5 after V17 was released.

    So we have the following two interpretations of this situation:

    1. Out of any magical reason, there weren't any bugs found for V16.5 MR-8 so far.
    2. Sophos is focussing in V17 only which means Customer who doesn't have the possibility to move immediately to V17, are maybe suffering protection...

    There are no more v16.5 releases.  There could possibly be one if there is a high priority security issue, but that is unlikely.

    All bug fixes are going into v17.

     

    What is preventing you from upgrading to v17?

    Thanks for your clear statement above. This statement means, we have to recommend to all our customers to upgrade immediatedly because if they expire any bugs, the first thing your Support will say is: "Please upgrade".

    Many of our Customers who have upgraded are complaining about issues in IPsec after Migration (As also there are many discussions in this Community about this).

    There is a 16.5 release today....

    Hi XG Community!

    We've finished SFOS v16.05.9 MR9. This release is available from within your device for all SFOS installations as of now.

    The release is available to all SFOS version via MySophos portal as well.

    Note: For customers currently using 16.5 MR8 or older on Azure and want to do a manual firmware update to 17.0 or newer need to install the 16.5 MR9 firmware first.

    Issues Resolved

    NC-21428 [Base System] License key activation not syncing automatically on wizard and licensing page

    NC-21736 [Base System] Upload of Azure firmware fails if up2date is larger than 300MB

    NC-22226 [Base System] Firewall allows all traffic to pass after registration deferral

    NC-22911 [Base System] Blank screen is displayed when user synchronizes license after successful registration

    All issues resolved in this release are also addressed in SFOS v17.0.

    If they have been running 16.5 for months without problems, then suddenly discover a bug, it is unlikely that bug will be mission critical for them.

    If they do find a bug, the first question will be whether this bug is already fixed in the latest release.  And if it is, then the recommended solution is to upgrade.

     

    For any upgrade of any software anywhere, an admin needs to ask themselves "This upgrade will fix some things for me, and also introduce risk of new stuff breaking".  The admin needs to judge their risk tolerance and decide whether or not to go through with the upgrade.  That would be true of new v16.5 MRs, it is true of going got v17.  It is true even on software updates from Microsoft or Firefox.  Is the upgrade worth the cost/risk.  For most people, it is.

     

    Please be aware the v17 MR3 was focused on fixing the IPsec issues.

    To add to what  mentioned, Sophos Support's recommended version is SFOS v17.0.3 MR-3
