MitXPC RS-JNF592VI5 for Sophos XG home

Was wondering if anyone has looked at these for a Sophos XG software install. I am aware it probably is a little overkill but since I moved both of my parents to Sophos gateways, my Sophos serves as a RED server which of course means more rules and load. Plus I am also a huge network security geek and want to make sure that whatever hardware I choose is not the bottleneck for my Internet connection.

Below is the link to what I am considering along with some details:

www.mitxpc.com/proddetail.php

  • Intel Core i5-6500 Quad-Core Processor with vPro
  • Intel Q170 Express Chipset
  • Supports up to 16GB DDR3 SODIMM Memory
  • 8x Intel Gigabit LAN Ports
  • iAMT 11 Support
  • Supports PCIe x4 (2.0), Mini PCI-E, and SIM Card Socket
  • Supports 2 x 2.5" or 1 x 3.5" SATA Drive
  • 1U Rackmount and Wall-mountable Enclosure
  • 80 PLUS Bronze Power Supply (100 ~ 240V AC)

Thank you in advance for taking the time to look and I appreciate any feedback.

  • Hi,

as a home user you are not licenced to use RED. I am not sure what you mean by a RED server? I think you want an additional box, very small to serve as an SFM (management box).

Your memory is way to big, as a home user your machine will only allocate 6gb as a maximum, otherwise the configuration looks good. Limit your disk size to about 60 or so gb otherwise the installation will take too long.
