RAM usage Sophos XG Firewall

Hello,

after migrating my Virtual Sophos XG to a new Hardware i've seen that the RAM usage is very high.

My System need without any Traffic a RAM usage of 3867.45 MB.  When I installed it in a VM Ware it only uses about 2,5-3 Gigabyte.

Is there a Problem in my machine, oder is the RAM usage normal?

Thanks for helping me

  • Hi,

    ram usage depends on the number of rules and link speed when reviewing. How much ram do you have in your physical XG?

    On the VM did you have fixed amount of ram assigned or did you have dynamic ram assigned?

    To give you an idea my main XG has 12 rules (8 IPv4 and 4 IPv6) two ISPs, 30 clientless users of which about 20 are active and ram usage sits around 50% of 6gb.

  • You can use top Command on Advanced Shell to find out which process the memory consumes.

    From my point of view, whatever platform (XG virtual or XG on a Appliance) you use, as long as ruleset and amount of Traffic is equal, the memory consumption should be roughly the same.

  • Hello,

    The Server got 2 Dimms with 4 GB RAM. So it got 8 GB of RAM.

    -> There is one external IP Adress. (100Mit/s Down // 50Mbit/s up)

    -> 2 VLANS with DHCP

    -> About 30 clients

    -> IPS

    -> Web Proxy

    ==> The same Rule like on my VM Ware XG.

    The reason of asking is, that my old VM XG did not Need so much of RAM.

    Tanks for helping
