Installing Home XG onto XG85 appliance

I understand Sophos now allow you to install home on an appliance, but have not provided any information on how to do this, or how to back it out if you have a problem.

I have bought my parents a Sophos XG85 and would now like to install the Home version onto it.

Following these instructions https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/126906  I downloaded the home ISO, saved it to a USB stick and booted my XG85 appliance with it, but it errored that it cant be installed on the hardware. Apparently i need to delete the paritions to make it install?

My question is, if i was to delete all the partitions, and for some reason this still doesnt work, Can i boot the hardware ISO back in, and will it automaticaly re create the paritions i need?

I dont want to brick my device, but i also want to take advantage of the free home offer.

  • Hello

Read the last post of AlanT product manager Sophos XG Firewall.

"You have to delete the partitions on the HDD first before the install will proceed. It's a safeguard against someone accidentally re-imaging it with the wrong installer. Delete the partitions first, and the software installer will then work on SG and XG appliances. This isn't supported on CR appliances."

  • Hi,

I'm trying to do this now, but the XG85 has a COM port, as such i cant use GParted USB live as it freezes once it trys to load VGA graphics.

I need something i can boot on the USB that stays in CLI mode, what do i need to do in order to erase the disk on the sophos so i can install the home version?
