Adding new Intel NIC ruined everything...temporarily. why?

New to the Sophos XG home family and really loving it.  Thanks to all on this forum whose advice has helped me successfully build and configure my home appliance.

I built my SG firewall from scratch with a Gigabyte micro-ATX board and i3 6100 processor.  I have 2 Intel 82574 NICS (PCI-Express) installed in a very simple configuration (WAN/LAN).  I decided to add another LAN card to create a separate LAN so that my and my kids computers could occupy separate subnets.  Since there are only 2 PCI-Express slots on my motherboard, I bought an Intel PCI card (model PWLA8391GTL).  I shut the appliance down and installed the card.  Connected a new Ethernet cable to the new card (everything else was plugged in identically).  Once booted up, nothing worked.  No IP addresses were given to the connected computers.  I could not connect to the appliance through a web interface, even with a fixed IP address on the proper subnet.  I tried connecting to the appliance's default IP address...no luck.  The new card had a green light lit up, the old cards had multiple lights (red, yellow etc) illuminated.

By this time my family was screaming at me so I powered off and uninstalled the card.  Rebooted and restored a backup (to get my AP15's active).  Now all is well.  System runs like it used to.

    Hi,

    I suspect that the new card has a lower id in the XG OS and moved your networks around. You could try again and do a fresh install noting which order the cards are in.

    Then do a restore connecting the corrected NIC (network number).

    That's what I figured, I suspected that the primary LAN changed to the new card.  Since I couldn't communicate with the appliance, I was unable to confirm.  Second question, if I back up my current configuration...install new card...clean install.  Will I be able to restore my backup or would I end up in the same place I am now?  Hate to have to reconfigure everything over again.  Thx

    Whenn the installatin is complete you will be able to see which network is assigned to which NIC, in fact you should see that during installation and you can check it in the cli.

    When you do your restore you will need to move the cables to the correct NICs and all should be good to go from there.
