Crash on SFOS 17.0.2 MR-2 on KVM

Hi,

I'm testing on a stage environment ad installation of SFOS 17.0.2 MR-2 (trial version) on Proxmox KVM.

During 2 week test the VM crashed two times.

This below is the syslog.log after the crash:

In the meantime I opened a case with Sophos. Anyone with this similar problem?

Best regards

  • Hi Andrea,

mine is running fine without any problems on Proxmox KVM.

What configuration and hardware specs for the KVM do you use?

Which hardware do you use for Proxmox?

The only problem I had was the following:

    https://community.sophos.com/products/xg-firewall/f/logging-and-reporting/86682/strange-logs-in-log-syslog-log-file/331340#331340

I had to add a serial device to the VM conf file.

    Best Regards

    Dom Nik

  • Hi Dom,

I'm running SFOS 17.0.2 MR-2 on Proxmox 5.1-35. Installed used the pre-build image for KVM, not installing via the ISO.

    This is the VM configuration:

    bootdisk: scsi0
    cores: 2
    ide2: none,media=cdrom
    keyboard: it
    memory: 2048
    name: SophosXG
    net0: virtio=D6:DC:46:FF:37:74,bridge=vmbr1,tag=41
    net1: virtio=26:96:30:E4:22:0A,bridge=vmbr0
    numa: 0
    ostype: l26
    scsi0: local-zfs:vm-102-disk-1,size=4G
    scsi1: local-zfs:vm-102-disk-2,size=80G
    scsihw: virtio-scsi-pci
    smbios1: uuid=083729cd-1ff2-4781-9d95-6128d5d18a2a
    sockets: 1

vmbr0 is a Linux Bridge and the vmbr1 is OVS Bridge.

The Hypervisor is a Supermicro server based on board X10SRL-F and Intel Xeon E5-2630 v4.

  • This is my configuration:

    boot: c

    bootdisk: scsi0

    cores: 2

    cpu: host

    memory: 6144

    name: <name>

    net0: virtio=<mac>,bridge=vmbr0

    net1: virtio=<mac>,bridge=vmbr1

    numa: 0

    onboot: 1

    ostype: l26

    scsi0: local:101/vm-101-disk-1.qcow2,cache=writeback,discard=on,size=20G

    scsihw: virtio-scsi-pci

    serial0: /dev/ttyS0

    smbios1: uuid=<uuid>

    sockets: 1

I would try adding some more memory to the VM and tune the ips settings by activating "low-memsettings" mode and disabling "application_signatures".

Update: I haven't used the KVM image from Sophos but the normal Software Installer for Intel Hardware to get rid of the 2 big disk volumes. Maybe this could be useful for you. (I still wonder what other differences of these images might be?)
