System services for a home user?

Recently installed Sophos XG for home use and I noticed there's a couple services running by default that I'm assuming aren't necessary (under 'Configure' -> 'System Services'). For example, is there any reason to have the Hotspot service running if I'm not running any sort of internet hotspot in my home? Is there a way to keep it disabled even if Sophos XG is restarted? The same question goes for the DNS Server. I'm using OpenDNS and my ISP provided DNS address for my DNS requirements. Does Sophos XG still have to run its own DNS Server? The other one I'm not sure about is the Authentication service - I'm not using any captive portal so is it necessary to be running? There is no option to stop this service, only restart. Thanks! Still learning my way around Sophos XG.

  • Hi shred,

You can certainly disable services that are not being utilized. For the Authentication Service, that option is not available because authentication is required. It is used to log in to the WebAdmin console, for example.

    Hope that helps,
