Sophos XG Build: Polywell H270L2 Fanless

Posting my build in case it helps others.  I've found reading this forum to be very useful.

  • Status: Working, currently using at Home

  • System OR Motherboard: Gigabyte H270N
  • BIOS version: F6
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7600T @ 2.8-3.7 GHz
  • RAM: 16 Gb DDR4-2133MHz
  • Disk Controller 1: M.2 SATA III

  • Optical Drive: External
  • Case/Chassis: Polywell 1750F-H8100L2
  • Power Supply: 80W
  • What's not working:  I219-V NIC.  I knew this when I configured the unit
  • Total Power Consumption (in Watts, if known): About 24-25 Watts idle, 30 Watts at 100 Mbps
  • Total Cost: $1362 USA
  • Comments / Notes:
    • System is a configurable Polywell H270L2 model.  Used at home
    • No discernable noise. Polywell fanless case is warm, not hot
    • Configured way more performance than needed, for both future-proofing, and, in case I want to use this build as a Windows PC in the future. Was willing to spend for it
    • Configured this way to use as a 2nd router, given all the hard-wired devices in the home
    • The I219-V is not recognized, so 5 out of the 6 NICs are operational
    • Extremely fast boot
    • CPU usage: <=2-3% typical, 13 % maximum
    • RAM usage: About 2.5 GB, on average
    • 11 active Firewall rules
    • 20 Web Protection exemption rules
    • Advertised Internet Speed: 100 Mbps down, 10 MBps up
    • Measured Speed (Active: Firewall only): 110 Mbps down, 12 Mbps up
    • Measured Speed (Active: Firewall + IPS (LAN to WAN) + APT + Web Protection (Dual Engine); Not Active: Application Control, Synchronized Security): 98 Mbps down, 12 Mbps up
    • Thank you all for the help on this forum
    • Overall, this has been a great security addition to the home network. Kudos to Sophos for offering such a powerful firewall free to home users
