Web policy category - External URL database

When adding a new ‘Web Category’ using an ‘External URL database’, what format does the external database have to be for Sophos XG to read and be able to utilize?

Specifically, I’m looking to create a new policy category for the Spamhaus DROP and EDROP list. They are a text file formatted as such: &

I figured the way to do this is by creating a new Web Policy Category and adding a firewall policy/rule that drops all traffic from the addresses list on the Spamhaus DROP and EDROP list. Is this the correct way to go about this with Sophos XG?

  • Hello Shred,

For external database, Acceptable formats are: .tar, .gz, .bz, .bz2, and .txt with following prerequisite for text file

    • Write each domain or IP in a separate line. The firewall evaluates the file on a line-by-line basis.
    • Metadata, comments, Semicolons and column formatting is not supported.
    • press enter after each line and make sure last line is blank
    • Each IP should be in a separate line. You cannot add Network ID i.e. 192.168.0.1/24

    2335.Web cat.txt

In files attached by you contains Semicolons and comments which is not supported.

    Regards, Ronak.
