External interface "down"

Since upgrading to XG v17 i'm having an issue where on the dashboard i often have an error over interfaces. When checking this is states that my PPPOE connection is down however it's not and is functioning as normal. Upon further investigation it appears that ping's to my ISP's gateway seem to be failing from within the network (I was unable to test from within XG as there appears to be a bug with the ping diagnostic functionality). Do i need to create a firewall rule to enable this to work? As far as i am aware in the past this wasn't an issue and worked out of the box.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so how do you resolve it?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section as i wasn't sure where to put it

Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

Show me the setting from WAN Link Manager | Failover. You can also enable the remote access id and DM it to me and I will check the configuration.

    Thanks

  • I was able to resolve this by changing the host which is used to determine if the link is up

  • I have this problem - as a user in the UK many BT gateways do not respond to ICMP, hence my Gateway interface shows as down, but connectivity is fine.

From your answer I can see that a fix is possible, but I cannot see how to achieve this from the interface. The only item that might describe the ping target is the Gateway IP which is not editable on either the Interface page nor on the Wan Link Manager page. Please could you lay out the necessary steps?

FYI: I connect via PPPoE through a "Bridge mode" device acting as a Ethernet-ATM bridge to the BT ADSL.

  • Hopefully you've been able to resolve this given the delay in my response. However I thought I'd post anyway. To resolve this go to Network > WAN link manager and click edit under your IPv4 gateway, under failover rules once again click edit and then change the "on IP address" field to a host which responds to pings.
