Hello,
I'm in the process of evaluating the XG firewall for a small school that I am the IT admin for. So far everything looks extremely promising, and I'm hoping the appliance will meet our needs.
I have installed a virtual machine and have been testing out some of the functionality.
The one thing I'm uncertain of, and it's a need for our organization, is the ability to assign the captive portal to a VLAN.
Basically what I'm needing to do (simplified explanation) Is use the Lan port for the management IP, and attach two VLANs to it. one for staff, and one for guests. possibly another for students.
I figured out I could attach a Hotspot with use of vouchers to the guest VLAN which is great. as I need a guest network that I can create vouchers for.
But....I don't see any intuitive way to put the Captive portal on the VLAN, the only thing I see is the setting for the LAN zone. To be clear, I'm not talking about attaching a hotspot portal to a VLAN, I need to attach the captive portal.
Perhaps I'm missing something, or not comprehending the way Sophos goes about accomplishing this.
This is a crucial need for me to have the captive portal on VLANs.
Is this possible, and if so, what is the basic procedure to accomplish this. (no need to go into detail, I just want to know it can be done, and the basic setup)
So to summarize.
In a nutshell.
LAN - management network (just for network equipment)
VLAN - for students/staff
VLAN2 - guests.
Is this possible? or suggestions as to the best way to go about this.
In a pinch I suppose I could just run the staff on the managment LAN, and add the vlan for guests. but ideally they would be seperate.
Thanks for any thoughts on this, and ideas as to if it's possible and how to go about it.
C :-)
