How to configure rules for plex on XG 17

I've seen some posts for earlier versions of XG, but I can't seem to find a config that will allow me to access plex outside my firewall.  In fact, plex server works, but even the internal IP address for the web management doesn't!  My internal clients (iPad, mac, ...) can access and play movies off the plex server, but if I try to access it to manage  (192.168.1.2:32400/.../index.html it just says looking for plex server...

Here is what I've tried so far

HELP!

  • Step1: Make sure your plex server is using XG as the default gateway

    Step 2

XG doesn't block your internal clients from accessing plex on your own LAN. Something maybe wrong with the server. Can you access by using http://192.168.1.80:32400/web/index.html  and manage from there?

  • Thanks that (mostly?) did it!  I was using TCP as the service, so now defining plex with the above port fixed it (and the web access).

    Two questions:

    - On my iphone while on LTE I get a message "you are not connecting directly to this server so streaming quality may be limited" - is this normal?  It takes a try or two to connect to plex

    - Do I need to specify manual port on plex server?  (it currently is).  When I do that,  it briefly flashes working then switches to "Not available outside your network.  Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network."  It says that but it plays fine on the phone...

    - Is there anything I need to tighten security wise based on the above ports being redirected to my ubuntu plex server?

  • I usually vpn to my network for local assets and don't publish plex. But from what I understand, when you use the login to server method, only people that can access your server are the ones that you allow on myplex.tv . Glad you got it working somewhat [:D] Please update us when you get all the kinks worked out so other people can benefit from your experience.

  • I can VPN in in most cases...  but when I travel sometimes I like to watch my library from an apple TV that you can't configure the VPN from... I'm concerned from a security perspective that people scan for the plex port- especially because I can't change the default...

  • You can easily change the port on XG. On your business rule, change the service definition for plex from tcp 32400 to whatever port you want and then check the change destination port and put 32400 as destination.

  • I'm having the same problems with PLEX.  I tried to follow your screenshot but in the Services area, it will not let me put in the Source Port as 1024:65635 (doesn't like the colon).  Also I'm assuming that the Application Template was "DNAT/Full NAT/Load Balancing".

  • Yeah i use plex too, as billybob says on the business rule make sure its just using 32400.  But also remove the bottom rule as u dont need that, just make sure your LAN to WAN rule includes port 32400.

Do you have web filtering or App filtering on these?
