Linking multiple XGs

Hi, not sure if this is something that can be done, or if it would even work... but it's in my head (amongst a lot of other things), so let's see...

The company I work for is expanding and as such, I'm looking at sorting out things on our internal network. We have an XG125, however we will likely get to the point where the hardware is not able to cope with the number of users. We had a similar thing with the XG85 and had to upgrade. So, my question is, is it possible to link the two XGs we have to increase the number of users we can have running through the system or is this a silly idea?!

Cheers

  • Hi,

one thing you could do is to cluster two XG-Firewalls into High-Availability mode running in the Active-Active mode.

With that you will have load balancing between your XGs.

Generally I dont think that would be a great idea. If your hardware cant handle your traffic or your users, you should upgrade.

HA is no feature to relieve your hardware, the main point is to create (just as the name already says) High-Availability.

  • Yeah, that would make sense, load balancing/HA isn't really something I'm looking into.

I suspect for the time being we will be fine with the XG125... and if the time comes then just upgrade.

    Cheers

  • another possibility is to run the XG software on a virtual machine, which gives you the ability to upgrade its "hardware" specs as needed.
