Web Users showing local network usage

Hi

Logging this call again after the first one was deleted

On a report "Web Users" implies users using the web. Why does web usage include local network traffic as well. Makes for a highly inaccurate web usage report.

  • I believe this report identifies all traffic that is going through the XG Web Proxy regardless of destination.  "Web" means "website", both intranet and internet.

The XG does not particularly know if a destination is an internal one (hosted locally) and internal one (hosted at different location and therefore uses internet bandwidth) or an external internet one.

However you can configure the XG with different firewall rules for internal traffic and external traffic.  Once you have done that, you can configure different web policies.  So that you can do things like on the internet they are not allowed to download executables, but in the intranet they are.

Once you've done that, go into the web policy for your internal traffic.  Edit then go to advanced settings, you can disable logging and reporting.

As far as I know, this causes everything going through that web policy to no longer appear in the "Web Users" report.

As long as you can create a firewall rule to identify the traffic you want to exclude from reporting, you can do this.
