Are backups encrypted?

I'm configuring automatic backups on an XG running SFOS 16.05 but I see no mention as to whether these backups are encrypted or how they are protected. I'd like to move the backups to our offsite FTP location but I also don't see any way to perform that FTP using TLS, does it do this by default? How are backups protected and can they be sent via FTP using TLS to protect the login credentials?

Thank you!

  • I understand I can encrypt myself if I deploy a local FTP server and write a processing script to then push to our offsite FTP server. FTP over TLS is NOT insecure, of course, which is what should be supported. From what I can tell, without deploying ON SITE infrastructure (not ideal in many scenarios), there is NO way to do automated backups in a secure fashion.

    This is ... surprising.
