LDAP

Question

Greetings, 
 We're primarily a Linux Solutions company. We avoid Windows as much as possible. 
 We have a client that we have provided with a Sophos xg-210 appliance. 
 They use Windows for their laptops and workstations and Linux for their Servers. 
 I have a Zimbra Collab server behing the XG which uses LDAP for authentication and I've configured XG to use the same LDAP successfully. 
 I can see all the Zimbra mail users in the XG user database. 
 Currently, I'm controlling the network using IP address and MAC address but I want to change that to user authentication. 
 So how can I get the Windows clients to authenticate through the XG LDAP for browsing without using Active Directory?

 you can use captive portal, so the users can authenticate using LDAP users at the prompt of the captive portal or you can install RADIUS role on a Windows Server and use RADIUS authentication on XG. 
 For captive portal, you need to tick "show captive portal to unknown users".

 Radius is a standard and it can be installed even on Linux, for example CentOS. FreeRadius is a good example.
