Using XG Home with router

I'm trying to setup XG Home. I want my setup to be the following:

Modem> XG Home > Linksys 1900AC > PC/Wireless

I can't find documentation on how to set this up.

  • I assume you would like to use XG as the firewall and to you want it to assign the IP addresses to your devices?

To use the Linksys router as a switch and as a wireless access point follow these steps.

First make a note of your XG default gateway IP address (if it is 172.16.16.100) then you will want to have the router on the same subnet but a different IP address (ex. 172.16.16.101).

I followed these steps when I used a Linksys 1900AC router with the UTM so it should be the same.

    1) If your PC is already connected to the XG and has an IP address in the 172.16.16.X range for example, you want to first release your IP address through the "ipconfig /release" command in Windows command prompt.

    2) Connect the router directly to your PC through one of it's LAN ports, and turn the router on.

    2) Run "ipconfig /renew" in windows command prompt. Then log into your Linksys router which is probably 192.169.0.1. Typing "ipconfig" in windows command prompt will tell you the default gateway of the router.

    3) Log into the router and change it's IP address to be on the same subnet as the XG firewall (ex. 172.16.16.101)

    4) Place the router in Bridge Mode which will disable its DCHP server and firewall/NAT so that you can use it as a switch/wireless access point. Linksys Bridge mode follow this tutorial but choose bridge mode, NOT wireless bridge.

    5) Now you should be able to setup your wifi password ect.

    6) Turn off the router, disconnect the cable going into your PC and connect it to your LAN port on the XG instead.

    7) Turn the router on. Now you should be able to log into the XG interface by 172.16.16.100 or the Linksys router 172.16.16.101 depending on what you set the IP address to be.
